Meaning and Metaphor: Highlights from the AGNS contemporary ceramic collection
The AGNS is one of the few public galleries to collect works in the major area of twentieth-century art. By preserving contemporary cotemporary ceramic objects and recognizing their value as examples of powerful creative expression, the AGNS has bridged the long perceived gap between folk and fine arts. This exhibition consists of 14 works or art by a number of well-known ceramists: Alison Britton, Alan Caiger-Smith, Michael Casson, Andrea Gill, Steve Heinemann, Wayne Higby, Harlin House, Les Manning, David Taylor, Brother Thomas, Robin Hopper, Michael Flynn, Greg Payce and Peter Powning.

East Coast Ceramics
The ceramists of the Maritimes form a cohesive style of work, unlike any other region of the country. Long out of the artistic mainstream, in the last quarter of a century a group of dedicated artists have forged a unique style that combines a high degree of functionability with the strong folk art tradition of the area. Narrative themes involving local floral and fauna, bold colour and stylized patternig are all hallmarks of these artists.
